Omaha Hi Low: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha hi/lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in almost every poker game.
The low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of betting options and owing to the fact that you have many players trying for the high, and a few shooting for the low.
