Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi lo starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5.
